Thanksgiving
November 22, 2024

Thursday November 28, marks the day of Thanksgiving. It’s one day in which the nation is called to give thanks for the blessings provided to us by a beneficent God.

It is also a day in which we recall the arrival of the Puritans/Pilgrims to the shores of America and the founding of the colony in Massachusetts. These colonists gathered together along with the natives of the land to thank them and the God who had guided them through the perilous year.

Just as then, we celebrate Thanksgiving with our own version of feasting, playing games, and watching football.

This year, as a traditional Thanksgiving event, besides the food, with traditional turkey or ham, pumpkin pies, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, etc., we have the traditional Thanksgiving Day football game hosted by the Detroit Lions. This Thanksgiving Day finds the Lions hosting their Rivals from the southwest, the Chicago Bears.

I’ve watched these games in the past, but if the Bears weren’t playing in this game, then I wouldn’t be watching. I; probably won’t be watching this game because it seems that the Chicago Bears find ways to lose games in the most dramatic ways.

This Thanksgiving, my sister will be coming to spend Thanksgiving with me, and we will be enjoying a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at one of our best restaurants in the area.

So wherever you may be on Thanksgiving, I hope it is a wonderful day spent with family and friends with good food and making new memories. Let’s be thankful for the many blessings we enjoy, and also to thank the God who provides us with His presence, and seeing us through difficult times in our lives.
