Storms This week, July 29 – 31, saw the Southwest Indiana being hit by several severe storms. We had severe thunder storm watches everyday, and on Tuesday July 30, we had a tornado hit Newburgh. It caused me to recall a storm we experienced in June 8 1982, and on a local radio station,, there was an announcement warning people to take cover because this might be the last warning you may get, and it was. Immediately the station went silent. I was working downtown at the time, and when I left work and made my way home, I found trees down, and power lines as well. We were without power for about a week. Where I lived at the time, our area was about the last ones to have electricity restored. We were very thankful that we weren’t injured during this storm. On November 6, 2005, we had a destructive tornado hit our area, and it did massive destruction at Ellis Park in Henderson Kentucky with a number of race horses being killed, and then it ripped through the East side of Evansville and Newburgh. There was loss of life with a trailer court sustaining a great deal of damage. I received phone calls and email messages asking if I were okay. I was awakened by the calls, and I asked what was going on, and that’s when I was told of this horrific storm that passed through here. That was on a Sunday morning, and if no one had called me, I would have been clueless of the events. https://www.14news.com/video/2019/11/05/november-evansville-newburgh-tornado/ The funny thing is that I can usually find songs to fit most circumstances, and so during the storm we experienced this past Tuesday, I thought of the song by Dennis Yost And The Classics Four, Stormy, and then other songs flooded my mind like, Riders On The Storm by the Doors, Lightning Strike, y Lou Christie, then there’s Thunder Roll by Garth Brooks. I can go on with more. With that being said, it is by no means to lessen the feeling of helplessness or to minimize the destructiveness of these storms or to minimize the loss of life. www.tgbessentials.com
